Sculptor Jane Ackroyd

Jane has worked from this West London studio for 27 years. Her favoured material is steel: cut, twisted and welded to form distinctive semi-skeletal forms. The assembled pieces are finished with a rubbing of beeswax under flame. This creates a smooth, dark surface polish.

Jane had mentioned the ivy wall on the phone prior to the shoot, but it still put a great big smile on my photographer face to see it

The bronze and photographic portraits shown in these photos are of Jane's grandparents and great grandparents. The desert scene was photographed by her father, a writer who lived with the Berbers for four years.
